At the McQuillan Softball Complex, Rochester Sports will be hosting the USA Softball 14A Northern National Championship. This is the eleventh straight summer that Rochester Sports has been selected as a host site for a Northern National Championship, and we are excited to once again solidify our strong reputation of producing top-notch softball events. This years’ tournament will feature a strong field of 27 elite teams from around the Midwest. A total of 8 states will be represented (MN, WI, IL, SD, ND, MO, IN, CO), and 20 of the 27 teams are traveling from out-of-state. Championship play gets underway at the McQuillan Softball Complex on Thursday, August 2 and will continue through Sunday, August 5 when a champion will be crowned.
Across town at the Recreation Center, the Rochester Swim Club will be hosting the 2018 USA Swimming Futures Championship. This is the first time that this particular USA Swimming event will be hosted in Rochester, and will feature competitors from states throughout the central United States, including many teams from as far away as Texas. In order to qualify for this meet, swimmers are required to meet specific time standards for each event established by USA Swimming. With this being the case, the meet will consist of 550 top-level competitors, and requires 200+ event volunteers to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Overall, these two events serve as opportunities to once again showcase the city of Rochester and all that it has to offer to the National Governing Bodies of two of our most successful sporting categories, Softball and Swimming. We are thrilled with the positive relationships that both Rochester Sports and our local sports organizations have been able to build with these National Governing Bodies over the years, and if we continue to prove that Rochester is a destination for events such as these, we should be well-positioned for continued success in the future.
