If you have been out and about in town these last few months, I am sure you have seen a handful of sports teams everywhere you go. The 2022 sports seasons are in full force, and attendees have been filling our hotels, restaurants, and event centers!

In February, Rochester hotels finished at 95% of total revenue when compared to Feb 2020. In addition, Rochester’s Year to Date has the highest RevPAR (revenue per available room) in the State, and for the first time in months, the ADR (average daily rate) surpassed pre-pandemic numbers!

This past weekend, the busy spring season continued with a trio of events hosted throughout the city!

On March 17-20, the Rochester Rec Center hosted the MN Age Group State Swim Meet, while the Mayo Civic Center welcomed wrestlers for the MN USA State Folkstyle Wrestling Meet. On March 19-20, the Odd Cup Volleyball Tournament was hosted at the National Volleyball Center, Century High School, and the Rochester Regional Sports Center.

All together, these three events combined to fill five separate sports venues with athletes and spectators throughout the city. With more than 1,000 wrestlers competing at the Mayo Civic Center, 900 swimmers at the Rec Center, and the Odd Cup Volleyball Tournament at maximum capacity with 80 teams, these events generated an Estimated Economic Impact of over $2,738,170 for Rochester in just four days.

While weekends like these help to prove that the city of Rochester has the facilities and staff in place to host these large scale events simultaneously, as we move into the future it will become increasingly more important to invest in new facilities, and upgrade existing facilities, to ensure that these events continue to look at Rochester as an attractive host city!
