Rochester Sports introduces new Executive Director

The Rochester Sports Executive Committee is pleased to announce that Matt Esau has been selected to be the next Executive Director of Rochester Sports (formerly Rochester Amateur Sports Commission), Esau will assume the role of Executive Director of Rochester Sports effective January 28th, 2019.

Esau, his wife, and their two sons have been an active residents of the Rochester community for the past 15 years, he most recently worked for Experience Rochester as the Director of Mayo Civic Center Sales. Throughout his years at Experience Rochester as well as his prior role at the Mayo Civic Center, he has worked collaboratively with Rochester Sports in bringing multiple sporting events to the Rochester community. Esau is also currently active in various Rochester youth sports organizations.

Last year Rochester hosted 92 sporting events and generated 32,315 hotel room nights and over $25 million in estimated economic impact.

“For the past 15 years, Matt has established himself and his passion for sports by actively participating on multiple Boards of local sports programs, coaching numerous youth sports teams, and volunteering at sporting events throughout our community.  He is a fantastic team player and leader that will enhance stakeholder engagement, communication, experience and relationships; he is a perfect fit for our role of Executive Director as we move Rochester Sports forward.  Matt’s knowledge and experience will help Rochester Sports build on the legacy of success that has been recognized nationally by our Sports Commission peers,” explained board president Brian Zmolek.
